Product Information

Name:
Tetrahydroxysqualene
Description:

Tetrahydroxysqualene is a natural product with antimycobacterial activity. It has been shown to be effective against tuberculosis and other mycobacteria. Tetrahydroxysqualene was first isolated from the fungus Spiculifer sp., which is found on the leaves of plants. The compound is composed of two subunits that are linked in an anti-parallel fashion, and its structure is similar to that of cholesterol. The biosynthesis of tetrahydroxysqualene involves two pathways: (i) a deoxygenation pathway and (ii) a dehydrogenation pathway. These pathways are responsible for the formation of four different products, including tetrahydroxysqualene, squalene, hexahydro-1H-indole-2-carboxylate, and 2-methylidene-3H-indolium ion. Tetrahydroxysqualene exhibits strong antibacterial activity against Mycob
