Description:
Tetrahydro-3-furancarbonitrile is a nitronate that is industrially produced by the reaction of malic acid, acrylonitrile, and ethylene. Tetrahydro-3-furancarbonitrile reacts with alkali metal to produce anhydrous tetrahydrofuran. This product is used in agrochemical applications as well as in the production of pharmaceuticals. Tetrahydro-3-furancarbonitrile can also be used for the synthesis of chiral compounds. The reaction time for this compound is typically less than 30 minutes and it has been shown to have stereoselective properties.
