3-(Trimethylsilyl)propargyl alcohol is a compound that is obtained by reacting 3-methylbutanol with lithium in the presence of trimethylsilyl chloride. It can be used as a starting material to synthesize organometallic compounds, such as copper complexes and Grignard reagents. This product has been successfully prepared using a preparative method that involves the use of butyllithium and copper complex. 3-(Trimethylsilyl)propargyl alcohol has been identified as an inhibitor for β-unsaturated ketones, which are generated by hydrolysis of acetylated silicon. This compound is also able to react with chloride ions to form a fluorescent probe, which can be used in chromatography.
