5-Thiazolamine is an antibiotic that is a sodium salt of 5-thiazolecarboxylic acid. It has been shown to be effective against degenerative diseases in laboratory animals and in humans. The mechanism of action is not well understood, but it may be due to its ability to modify ethyl bromoacetate, or its insecticidal activity. 5-Thiazolamine inhibits the growth of some bacteria by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids. It also has an antimicrobial effect on some fungi, including Candida albicans. It also possesses anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of leucocyte chemotaxis and phospholipase A2 production. 5-Thiazolamine is synthesized from hydrogen peroxide, sulfide, chloride ions, and triazolium ions.
