L-threonine methyl ester is a hydrogenated and saponified form of L-threonine. It is a substrate for serine proteases and has been shown to be a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme. L-Threonine methyl ester hydrochloride is an amino acid that has been found to be present in human breast milk. It is structurally similar to glycine and methionine, with the only difference being its substitution on the amide nitrogen by methyl group. L-Threonine methyl ester hydrochloride undergoes intramolecular hydrogen bonding as well as hydrogen bonding with water molecules. The optimum pH for its catalysis is 7.0, and it can react with chloride ions, which have been shown to lower the pH of the solution.
