- H-Thr-Ala-OH
- Thr-Ala
Thr-Ala-OH is a glycopeptide antibiotic that inhibits the synthesis of proteins by binding to aminopeptidases and blocking their activity. It has been shown to be effective against bacteria in the blood group A and B, as well as Trichomonas vaginalis, Giardia lamblia, and Trichomonas homologues. Thr-Ala-OH is synthesized from the amino acid L-threonine and the amino acid alanine. The Thr residue can be replaced with other amino acids such as Ser or Ala without altering its activity. Thr-Ala-OH has been sequenced and found to have a similar structure to phosphofructokinase (the enzyme that generates ATP). As a result, it may inhibit ATP production by binding to phosphofructokinase.
