2-Tetralone is a keto acid that is isolated from the reaction of 2-naphthol and hydrogen chloride. It has been shown to inhibit the binding of a number of inhibitors to their receptors by competitive inhibition, including binding to copper and zinc ions. The compound is also an irreversible covalent inhibitor due to its carbonyl group. 2-Tetralone has been used in molecular modeling studies for x-ray crystal structures, which have led to insights into the structure of the enzyme.
