DL-Tyrosine methyl ester hydrochloride is a chiral, fluorescent molecule that has been synthesized by reacting DL-tyrosine with methanol and then reacting it with hydrogen chloride. This compound can be used as a monolayer modifier for fluorescence microscopy. The temperature of the reaction can affect the stability of the monolayer and so should be monitored carefully. The monolayer morphology changes depending on the type of solvent used in its preparation.
