Tetraammineplatinum(II) chloride hydrate is a high-yield, reactive and stable platinum complex that is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. Tetraammineplatinum(II) chloride hydrate can be prepared by the hydrothermal reaction of tetraamineplatinum(II) nitrate with sodium chloride and water. The salt solution is filtered, activated with lanthanum oxychloride, and treated with chloroform to yield the final product. Tetraammineplatinum(II) chloride hydrate has been shown to catalyze the carbonyl-arene and aromatization reactions. It also can be used for the filtration of organic solvents.
