1,2,3,4-Tetrahydroisoquinoline-3-carboxylic acid amide (THICA) is a novel antidepressant that has been shown to have antidepressant-like effects in animal models. It was found to be an antagonist of 5-HT1A and 5-HT7 receptors and to interact with other arylpiperazines at these sites. THICA also showed affinity for the serotonin transporter. These findings suggest that THICA may inhibit serotonin reuptake and modulate serotonergic neurotransmission through activation of 5-HT1A and 5-HT7 receptors.
