Tetrachloro-1h-indene-1,3(2h)-dione is a specific antiviral agent that inhibits the synthesis of viral nucleic acids and proteins. It has been shown to be effective against syncytial virus infections in cell culture. Tetrachloro-1h-indene-1,3(2h)-dione has also been shown to stimulate antibody production in response to viral infection and may be used as a diagnostic tool for primary cells. The drug is not active against DNA viruses and does not cross the blood brain barrier. Tetrachloro-1h-indene-1,3(2h)-dione binds to ribosomes, preventing protein synthesis and cell division.
