Description:
4-(2-thienyl)benzaldehyde (4TBA) is an aldehyde that has been synthesized and used as a fluorescent probe. It has been shown to bind to metal ions, specifically zinc, with high affinity. This ligand can be used in microscopy studies of mammalian cells due to its low detection limit and its ability to form fluorescent complexes with metal ions. 4TBA is also useful for the detection of fluoroquinolone antibiotics such as gatifloxacin due to their strong absorption bands in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum.
