Tetrafluorop-xylene is a chlorinated derivative of xylene. It is a colorless liquid with a low melting point and boiling point. Tetrafluorop-xylene is used as an intermediate in the production of polymers, such as polyurethane, for use in insulation, artificial leather, and adhesives. In addition to its industrial uses, tetrafluorop-xylene has been shown to inhibit polymerization initiator and polymerization reactions by reacting with the free radical chain ends that are generated during the initiation step. This inhibition can be controlled by changing the reaction time or solvent.
