Description:

(S)-3,3,3-Trifluoro-2-hydroxy-2-methylpropionic acid is an active compound that is used in enzymatic processes. It is the most common of the racemic mixture of 3,3,3-trifluoro-2-hydroxy-2-methylpropionic acid. This compound has a chiral center and can exist as two enantiomers: (R)-(+)-3,3,3-trifluoro-2-hydroxy-2 methylpropionic acid and (S)-(−)- 3,3,3 trifluoro 2 hydroxy 2 methylpropionic acid. The former is an optically active form that can be used to study enzyme stereoselectivity. The latter is an unreacted form that has been shown to be a useful intermediate in the synthesis of various esters.
