The synthesis of this compound has been reported by the group of R.J.K. Taylor in 1979. The benzofuran ring system has two geometric isomers, cis and trans, which are formed by the reaction of the hydroxyethylene group with the 1,2-benziodoxol-3(1H)-one ring system.
