Tris(hexafluoroacetylacetonato)iron(III) is a ligand that can be used in polymer matrixes to form chelate rings. The electron-donating capacity of the phenyl substituents on the tris(hexafluoroacetylacetonato)iron(III) molecule increases its ability to bind with chloride ions and imines. Tris(hexafluoroacetylacetonato)iron (III) has been shown to transform into a reduced form, which has higher redox potentials than the oxidized form. These redox potentials can be measured using cyclic voltammetry. A constant voltage is applied to electrodes, and the current is recorded as it changes over time. The current peaks at the point where the oxidation or reduction half-reaction reaches equilibrium.
