Description:

Tetrakis(4-carboxymethyloxyphenyl)porphyrin (TCMP) is a singlet oxygen emitting compound. Singlet oxygen can react with lipid and protein molecules, generating reactive oxygen species such as hydroperoxides and hydrogen peroxide. TCMP has been found to enhance the production of reactive oxygen species in mitochondria, which may be due to its ability to transfer energy from the electron transport chain to the respiratory chain. TCMP also has a peroxidative effect on rat brain tissue, leading to an increase in marker enzyme activity and lipid hydroperoxides.
