5,10,15,20-Tetrakis(4-hydroxyphenyl)porphyrin (TPHP) is a highly sensitive optical sensor that has been used in the detection of electrochemically active species such as epidermal growth factor. It is a neutral ph porphyrin with a hydroxyl group that can be hydrolyzed by strong acids such as hydrochloric acid. TPHP has been used for optical sensing and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy on cells in culture. It has also been used for sensing of growth factors in cell culture media.
