Description

N-(p-Toluenesulfonyl)-L-phenylalanyl Chloride is a modification of the drug 2-hydroxyglutarate, which is an inhibitor of the enzyme enoyl CoA hydratase. It is used in diagnosis and treatment of renal cell carcinoma, as well as other cancers that are resistant to treatment with chemotherapeutic agents. This drug prevents the production of energy from fats and amino acids by inhibiting cellular metabolism. N-(p-Toluenesulfonyl)-L-phenylalanyl Chloride has been shown to be reactive with chloride ions, resulting in the formation of a chromatographic peak on thin layer chromatography. The reactive properties may also be responsible for its ability to bind to tissues and cells.
