Triphenylborane is a chemical compound that has the formula BAr3. It is a colorless solid with a pungent odor and is soluble in organic solvents. Triphenylborane is used as a reagent in organic synthesis, often as an alternative to triphenylphosphine. In this role, it converts alcohols to alkyl halides and amines to nitriles. Triphenylborane can be encapsulated into phosphazene (PZ) devices for use as fuel cells, actuators, sensors, or memory devices. These devices are made from allyl groups which are deformed during encapsulation to form electrical connections between the phosphazene and the boron atoms of the borane. The functional groups on the phosphazene react with silicone to make silicone-coated magnetic particles that can increase viscosity or act as carboxyalkyl groups.
