O-Tolylurea is a white solid that becomes yellow when heated. It is soluble in ether, benzene, and chloroform. O-Tolylurea is a compound of azide and copper chloride, with yields of 72% or higher. When the azide reacts with copper chloride and o-tolylurea, it forms an azide complex on the surface of copper metal plates. This reaction can be used to remove chlorine from water or other harmful substances. O-Tolylurea also has been shown to have receptor cell binding properties in some studies. Research has shown that this chemical can bind to chloride ions in the stomach lining and inhibit acid secretion.
