1,6,20,25-Tetraaza[6.1.6.1]paracyclophane is a hydrophobic molecule that binds to lysine residues on the surface of cells. It interacts with cholic acid and forms a monolayer on the surface of the cell. The interaction between 1,6,20,25-Tetraaza[6.1.6.1]paracyclophane and lysine residues is reversible due to the nature of their binding constants, which are inversely proportional to their molecular weights (the larger the molecule's weight, the weaker its binding constant). 1,6,20,25-Tetraaza[6.1.6.1]paracyclophane has been shown to be fluorescent and isothermally sensitive to changes in temperature and pH levels; it has a molecular weight of 527 Da and an extinction coefficient of 13700 M−1 cm−1
