1,3,3-Trimethylindolino-b-naphthopyrylospiran is a photochromic compound that is soluble in ethanol solutions. It's hydrophobic and binds to the cavity of a surface method. When the environment changes, such as temperature or light exposure, the molecule undergoes a change in its optical properties. The interaction between 1,3,3-trimethylindolino-b-naphthopyrylospiran and β-cyclodextrin enhances its photochromism. This compound has been shown to decolorize and can be used in materials that are sensitive to UV light.
