It undergoes a chemical reaction in the presence of radiation such as ultraviolet light and high energy visible light. This reaction causes the material to darken in color. The absorption spectrum of 1,3,3-trimethylindolinonaphthospirooxazine changes from blue to red when exposed to UV light and then back to blue when exposed to visible light.
