Tetrapropylammonium Iodide (TPI) is a pyrimidine compound that is used as a light-sensitive, solid catalyst in the production of hydrogen peroxide. It has been shown to have low light efficiency, which may be due to its ability to absorb visible and ultraviolet light. The transport properties of TPI are largely dependent on the presence of hydroxyl groups. TPI is an electrolyte with a redox potential of about +0.4 V and has been shown to produce photocurrents when exposed to light. The solar conversion efficiency for TPII has been measured at about 1% under irradiation by simulated solar radiation, which is considerably lower than other organic photovoltaic materials such as poly(3-hexylthiophene).
