Product Information
Tetraphenylphosphonium iodide is a cationic polymerization catalyst that is used in the production of polymers and other chemicals. It forms a complex with copper and hydrogen fluoride, which reacts as an oxidation catalyst to form hydrogen gas. Tetraphenylphosphonium iodide has been shown to be an effective catalyst for the formation of hydrogen peroxide from hydrogen and oxygen gases. The reaction mechanism starts with the formation of a molecule of tetraphenylphosphonium chloride, followed by the addition of hydrogen fluoride to form the copper complex. The copper complex then oxidizes the hydroxyl group on tetraphenylphosphonium chloride to produce hydroxyl radicals, which then react with water molecules to form hydrogen peroxide. Tetraphenylphosphonium iodide also undergoes photochemical reactions when exposed to light, generating chlorine atoms and aryl halides.
