Description

{2-[3-(Trifluoromethyl)phenyl]ethyl}amine is an optically active compound that can be used as a chiral derivatizing agent. It is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers, with one being the major component. This compound has been validated for use in the separation of pseudoephedrine and its enantiomers by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The γ-cyclodextrin binds to the analyte and converts it into a more volatile form for analysis by mass spectrometry. The trifluoroacetic acid group is added to the analyte to increase volatility. {2-[3-(Trifluoromethyl)phenyl]ethyl}amine can also be used in conjunction with other chiral derivatizing agents such as (-)-menthol, (+)-menthol, or (-)-menthone to help differentiate between different types of compounds.
