3-(Trichloromethyl)benzotrifluoride (3-TMBF) is an efficient catalyst for the selective fluorination of alcohols, carboxylic acids, and esters. It has been used for the synthesis of intermediates for polymerization reactions as well as in organic chemistry. 3-TMBF is a stable compound that can be stored at room temperature. It is also a thermodynamically stable compound, meaning it does not decompose when subjected to high temperatures. 3-TMBF is soluble in liquid phase and can be easily purified by distillation. The conversion rate of 3-TMBF to its active form increases with increasing pH levels above 5.5, but it becomes less reactive at pH values below 4.0 due to protonation of the trichloromethyl group. Experimental results show that 3-TMBF will react with pyridine to form benzotrifluoride
