Description:

3-Trifluoromethylanisole is a chemical compound with the molecular formula CF3CH2O. It is a colorless liquid that has been used as an intermediate in organic syntheses. 3-Trifluoromethylanisole can be obtained by reaction of 3-chloroanisole and boron trifluoride etherate in dichloromethane at room temperature or by conversion of 3,4,5-trichloroanisole with sodium hydroxide in water. The reaction system for this compound is the activation mechanism, which occurs when the proton on carbon atom number three reacts with the functional group on carbon atom number two to form a covalent bond. This activation process requires an energy input, which is referred to as an activation energy.
