Description

3,3',5,5'-Tetra-tert-butyl-2,2'-biphenyldiol is a ligand that binds to alcohols. It is used in the oxidation of primary alcohols by coupling with them in the presence of an oxidizing agent such as potassium dichromate or hydrogen peroxide. 3,3',5,5'-Tetra-tert-butyl-2,2'-biphenyldiol selectively catalyzes oxidative coupling reactions and has a high degree of reactivity. 3,3',5,5'-Tetra-tert-butyl-2,2'-biphenyldiol can be used to synthesize 2-hydroxydibenzofuran from benzene and dibenzofuran. This compound is also found naturally in the plant species "Euphorbia bipinnata" and "Pelargonium graveolens".
