2,3,4,5-Tetramethyl-2-cyclopentenone (TMCP) is a cyclopentadienyl complex that can be synthesized through the reaction of allyl bromide with ferrocene. It is an organometallic compound that has a high degree of reactivity because it contains two functional groups. TMCP can be used as a catalyst for the cyclopentadienyl ring opening of β-unsaturated ketones, which are obtained from the reaction of acetone with alkali metal alloys. This compound also has acidic properties and is polar in nature. TMCP exists as two stereoisomers that are mirror images of each other and have different chemical properties. The cis form is more stable than the trans form.
