Product Information
- 3-(Trifluoromethyl)benzenethiol
- 1-Bromo-5-Chloro-2-Fluoro-4-Methylbenzene
- 3-Trifluoromethyl thiophenol
3-(Trifluoromethyl)thiophenol is a methylating reagent that can be used for the synthesis of grignard reagents and phosphonates. It is also used as a methylating agent in organic synthesis and as an intermediate in the production of other compounds. 3-(Trifluoromethyl)thiophenol reacts with benzotrifluoride to form the corresponding trifluoromethylthiolate, which can then be reacted with chloride to give the corresponding chloromethylated compound. The reaction time for this reaction is dependent on temperature. Reaction of 3-(trifluoromethyl)thiophenol with thiosemicarbazide or disulfides gives methylated thiosemicarbazones or disulfides, respectively. This reagent also reacts with nucleophiles such as ammonia and hydroxide ion, leading to nucleophilic substitution reactions. 3
