2-Thioxo-2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1h)-one is an inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase. It has been shown to have a strong inhibitory effect on the enzyme's activity in vitro, with the IC50 value being around 0.5 mM. The compound was synthesised by reacting acetyl chloride and 4-chloro-3,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde. This compound is stable in aqueous solution and can be used to inhibit carbonic anhydrase in analytical chemistry, cell culture, and human serum. 2-Thioxo-2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1h)-one has also been shown to be efficient for the determination of carbonic acid using vibrational spectroscopy.
