4,5,6,7-Tetrahydrobenzo[b]thiophene-2-carboxylic acid is an antibacterial agent with a broad spectrum of activity. It inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the ribosomal RNA and inhibiting protein synthesis. This compound has been shown to be effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and other bacterial strains such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis. 4,5,6,7-Tetrahydrobenzo[b]thiophene-2-carboxylic acid also inhibits the production of aldehydes in cyclohexanone by reacting with the double bond in this molecule.
