Thymopentin is a thymic hormone that has been shown to decrease the severity of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) in mice. Thymopentin has also been shown to have immunoregulatory effects and to inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-2 receptor, in vitro. It also stimulates the proliferation and differentiation of cells found in the bone marrow and spleen, which are involved in antibody production. Thymopentin is used as a pharmacological agent for the treatment of infectious diseases caused by C. glabrata and other microorganisms.
