The average particle diameter of this substance is 2 nm, which may be due to the presence of carbon nanotubes. This compound is activated by hydrogen fluoride, which leads to its reaction with other substances to form cross-links between molecules. When exposed to light, tetrabutylphosphonium tetrafluoroborate emits fluorescence properties with an activation energy of 13 kcal/mol.
