This compound is synthesized by reacting tetrabutylammonium chloride with bromine in ether solution at room temperature. Tetrabutylammonium dibromoiodide can be used as a monomer or polymer additive to improve the fluidity and increase the heat resistance of thermoplastics. It also has high ferroelectric properties that are expressed at temperatures below -40°C.
