Triethylsilanol is a trifluoroacetic acid that is prepared by the reaction of hydrogen fluoride with an appropriate heterocycle. It is used as a reactive solvent in organic synthesis, such as for the preparation of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and its analogues. The chemical properties of triethylsilanol are similar to those of other fluorinated alcohols. Triethylsilanol reacts with hydrogen fluoride to form hydrogen bonding interactions, which are susceptible to nucleophilic attack by water and other electrophiles. The reaction mechanism was investigated using 5-hydroxytryptamine, which was synthesized from triethylsilanol and sodium borohydride. Triethylsilanol has been shown to be metabolically stable and does not react with biological molecules or hydroxyl groups.
Triethylsilolans can be detected by dispersive solid-phase extraction during sample preparation for high performance liquid chromatography analysis. For elemental analysis, tri
