Product Information

Name:
2,3,5-Trimethylthiophene
Synonyms:
  • Thiophene, 2,3,5-trimethyl-
Description:

2,3,5-Trimethylthiophene is a gaseous chemical compound that has the molecular formula of C6H8S. It is an aliphatic organosulfur compound and an isomer of 2,4-dimethylthiophene. The chemical structure consists of three methyl groups connected to a thiophene ring. The bond cleavage of the molecule leads to the formation of two products: 2-methylthiophene and hydrogen sulfide. This gas also has skeletons with five members. The sulfur atom in this molecule can be substituted by a sulfide group or by alkylation with chlorine or bromine. 2,3,5-Trimethylthiophene is used as a precursor for production of polymers, such as poly(2,5-trimethylthiophene) and poly(2-methylthioadamantane).
