Description

Tellurium is a metallic element that has been found to have a number of biological activities. Tellurium has been shown to be an inhibitor of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, which is characterized by low platelet counts. Tellurium binds to the active site of the enzyme, forming a covalent bond with the sulfhydryl group of the active site and inhibiting its function. It has been identified as a natural product in plants and fungi. It also has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
