Description:
4,5,7-Trihydroxycoumarin is a natural flavonoid and a potent antiviral agent. It has been shown to inhibit the replication of viruses in cell cultures. The antiviral activity of 4,5,7-trihydroxycoumarin is due to its ability to interact with the lipid membrane by binding covalently to the phosphate groups of glycerophospholipids. This interaction leads to structural changes in the lipid bilayer and inhibits viral replication. 4,5,7-Trihydroxycoumarin also has electron transfer properties that can be used for electrochemical methods such as cyclic voltammetry and spectroelectrochemistry.
