Product Information

Name:
2,4,6-Trimethyl-L-Phenylalanine
Synonyms:
  • (2S)-2-amino-3-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)propanoic acid
  • 2,4,6-Trimethyl-L-phenylalanine
  • L-2,4,6-Trimethylphenylalanine
Description:

2,4,6-Trimethyl-L-phenylalanine is a non-protein amino acid that has been found to bind to the somatostatin receptor. It is synthesized from l-phenylalanine by a series of steps that involve the introduction of an additional methyl group at the 2, 4 and 6 positions. The incorporation of these methyl groups affects the conformation and affinity of the amino acid for its target receptor. This compound has been found to be more potent than L-phenylalanine in binding to somatostatin receptors and is therefore used as a pharmacophore in drug development.
