Description:

Trifluoropropene is an organic compound with the formula CF3CH=CH2. It is a colourless gas that has been used as a chemical intermediate. Trifluoropropene is produced by the Friedel-Crafts reaction of hydrogen chloride and fluorine, which is followed by dehydrochlorination to give trichlorofluoropropene. Trifluoropropene can be obtained from the hydrogenation of 1,3-dichloro-2-propanone, which in turn can be synthesized by chlorination of acetone. The use of trifluoropropane as a fuel has been proposed because it has lower activation energy than other hydrocarbons and so burns more efficiently. Trifluoropropene also reacts with chlorine atoms to form chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) such as tetrafluoroethylene, hexafluoroethane and oct
