TrifluoroMethane-D is a deuterated molecule that has the same chemical formula as methane but with one hydrogen atom replaced by a deuterium isotope. The trifluoromethane-D molecule has a higher formation constant than methane, which is due to the increased mass of the deuterium isotope. This effect can be observed in spectroscopy when the absorption of light at different wavelengths is measured after irradiation with a diode laser. TrifluoroMethane-D is used as an alternative to methane as a molecular probe for determining molecular interactions with other compounds and substances in research.
