Tetrafluoroplatinum is a platinum-based compound that is used in the treatment of cancer. It has been shown to be effective in inhibiting the growth of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma cells, which are resistant to cisplatin and other chemotherapeutic drugs. Tetrafluoroplatinum binds to DNA by means of electrostatic interactions, forming cross-links between DNA strands. This prevents DNA replication and transcription, leading to cell death. Tetrafluoroplatinum can also bind to epidermal growth factor receptors on cells, which leads to the activation of vitamin B12 and growth factors, causing an increase in the production of epidermal growth factor.
Tetrafluoroplatinum has also been shown to have a very low adsorption rate onto surfaces, making it difficult for it to leach into groundwater or harm aquatic life. The use of this compound has been found to be safe when applied as a coating on materials such as poly
