Tribromofluorosilane is a chemical substance that belongs to the group of organometallic compounds. It is a colorless liquid with a boiling point of -101°C and a molecular weight of 71.09 g/mol. The chemical formula for tribromofluorosilane is CHBrF3. This compound can be polymerized to form polybromofluorosilane, which has applications in the production of fluoropolymers and other polymer materials. Tribromofluorosilane is produced by the reaction of hydrochloric acid, boron trichloride, and silicon tetrachloride at temperatures below 130°C. The product can then be purified using a magnesium salt and phenyl groups as cocatalysts.
