The trifluoromethyl radical (CF) is a reactive, redox-active species that can be generated by the reaction of sodium trifluoroacetate and trifluoroacetic acid. It reacts with metal hydroxides to form metal trifluoromethylates. The radical can also undergo intramolecular hydrogen transfer reactions with organic compounds. Trifluoromethyl radicals are often used as reactive intermediates in organic synthesis. The biological properties of the trifluoromethyl radical include their ability to inhibit enzymes and cause metabolic disorders. In addition, they have been shown to play a role in autoimmune diseases and other inflammatory responses.
