Description:

1,1,1-Trifluoro-2-nonanol is a liquid that is efficient for the synthesis of optically pure compounds. It has been shown to be an efficient catalyst for esterification reactions and can be used in organic chemistry to synthesize racemic mixtures. 1,1,1-Trifluoro-2-nonanol can also be used as a lipase inhibitor. This material is ferroelectric and can be used in liquid crystal displays. The chemical properties of 1,1,1-trifluoro-2-nonanol have been studied extensively and it is known to exist as a mixture of two enantiomers with opposite optical properties (dextrorotatory and levorotatory).
