Vanadium(V) oxyfluoride is a magnetic resonance imaging contrast agent that is used in the diagnosis of cancer. It can be prepared by introducing trifluoroacetic acid into an acidic solution of vanadium pentoxide, generating an acid complex that contains hydroxyl groups. Vanadium(V) oxyfluoride has anticancer activity and is used as an oxidation catalyst to prepare organic compounds. The average particle diameter of this compound ranges from 10 to 40 nanometers.
