Product Information
Trifluoroacetyl-L-proline is a molecule that can be used as a treatment for endotoxicity. It is an enantiomer of L-proline and has been shown to have therapeutic potential in the treatment of septicemia, among other uses. Trifluoroacetyl-L-proline has been shown to inhibit the growth of gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli. The mechanism of inhibition is through a nucleophilic attack by the trifluoroacetyl group on the alpha carbon of the substrate. This process leads to a transient formation of hydrogen bonds and subsequent cleavage of these bonds with release of ammonia or nitrogen gas. The trifluoroacetyl group also inhibits bacterial enzymes involved in methionine metabolism and benzoate degradation, which are important for bacterial survival.
